Antonio Davola is the winner of the Marie Skłodowska Curie Individual Fellowship for his research project “Fair Personalization” on unfair commercial practices and consumer protection. Davola, a former Sant’Anna School law student, is collaborating with researchers from the Dirpolis Institute Lider-Lab to ensure that consumers in EU are not misled or exposed to aggressive marketing and unfair trading.

The EC Marie Skłodowska Curie Individual Fellowship will contribute to the implementation of the policy goals of the Europe 2020 strategy for cyber security fostering new skills by means of excellent initial training of researchers. The EU directives aim to protect freedom and security of European citizens, enabling consumers to make informed and meaningful choices.

Antonio Davola will carry out his research project under the supervision of Professor Mirella Pellegrini (Luiss Guido Carli University - Rome), Professor Chantal Mak (Centre for the Study of European Contract Law – Amsterdam) and Professor Giovanni Comandé (Sant’Anna School Lider Lab) in cooperation with the Sant’Anna School department of excellence EMbeDS (Economics and Management in the era of Data Science).

Davola’s project “FairPersonalization” aims to investigate tailored commercial practices and consumer purchasing intention through a big data analysis. Davola will examine concerns about privacy invasion through the implementation of fair information practices and EU standards governing the collection and use of personal information. To identify whether and how European Union consumer protection rules could incorporate more behavioral wisdom through an interdisciplinary approach offering regulatory methods preserving freedom of choice, Davola will investigate how further developments in behavioral research should be implemented at the level of the EU Member States.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions provide grants for all stages of researchers' careers - be they doctoral candidates or highly experienced researchers - and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. The initiatives enable research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and companies) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide.
